PsPad: how to column select

To column select:

Hold Alt (first) + Drag column selection using mouse

However, for above keystrokes to work, you need to make sure:

1. Word wrap is switched off (View > Word Wrap Lines)

2. Settings > Program Settings... > Editor (Part 1) > Alt sets Column Mode (is checked)
